Ragtime BIO:

Ragtime is a sweeping Broadway musical based on E.L. Doctorow's 1975 historical novel of the same name. With music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and book by Terrence McNally, the show depicts three parallel stories set in turn-of-the-20th-century New York: a wealthy white family from New Rochelle, a Black ragtime musician named Coalhouse Walker Jr., and a Jewish immigrant named Tateh. The show is celebrated for its rich orchestrations, powerful themes of race, class, and immigration, and iconic songs.

This production will take place at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago from August 27 to. The musical has garnered critical acclaim, winning 4 Tony Awards in 1998 for Best Musical Score, Best Book, Best Orchestrations, and Best Scenic Design. Audiences can expect a large-scale production featuring elaborate period costumes and a massive ensemble cast.

Notable songs from the show include "Wheels of a Dream," "Make Them Hear You," and "Goodbye, My Love." The performance is known for its positive live atmosphere, often culminating in standing ovations for the powerful anthem "Make Them Hear You." The show is suitable for ages 12 and up due to its themes of racism, violence, and social justice.
